The Benefits of Red Wine

The ancient Egyptians and Greeks considered wine to be “good for health” and used it as a form of medicine. Today, we are certain that the skin and seeds of grapes may have cancer-fighting properties.  The red and purple grapes contain more resveratrol than green grapes.  Resveratrol is an antioxidant that protects your cells from any damage that could potentially lead to cancer.  Aside from resveratrol, red wine contains a number of other antioxidants, which can slow the signs of aging, prevent gum disease and prevent a number of degenerative illnesses.  There are also many heart healthy benefits including, raising levels of “good” HDL cholesterol, protecting your arteries from damage caused by “bad” LDL cholesterol. The bottom line: red wine is a great occasional treat!
